- Do we need to pay membership on the first day?
No, we suggest trying for 2 / 3 weeks to see if rugby is for you and your son / daughter. In order to play in matches your child should be registered with the RFU which we will arrange at no additional cost to yourself.
- What do we need to bring?
Rugby / football boots (mud makes it too slippery for trainers).Mouth guards are compulsory for U9s . These can be purchased from the club shop or any good sports shop. These need to be moulded and time allowed for players to get used to it. A named drinks bottle is essential and a healthy snack for younger age groups is a good idea. It is a good idea to wear lots of layers as it can get very cold at the club.
- What kit is required?
All the kit you require is sold in the club shop or can be ordered via the Leighton Buzzard RFU website www.buzzardrugby.co.uk.
- Do we have to join at the beginning of the season?
No. You can join at any time during the season.
- How do I know what age group my son or daughter will be in?
Your child’s age at the 1st September is the age group they will be in, so if your child is 7 on the first of September then they will be in the under 8’s for that season.
- Where are the fixtures written?
There is club book given to all members at the start of the season and available on the website. Fixtures can change so always check the club website and social media for changes. Mini fixtures are also on the notice board in the club house.
- Will we need to travel to other clubs and do we have to go?
We travel to a number of other clubs to play in matches and tournaments throughout the season. It is recommended that players go to as many as possible as this benefits the child to see how other clubs are run, meet and play against other teams and learn how other coaches train. It is also a good way for teams to bond.
- What if we can’t make it every week
The coaches would appreciate an e mail or call just letting them know so they can plan the following Sunday.
- Do you play if it is raining?
Yes, bring an umbrella and waterproofs. We try and only cancel matches when the pitches are flooded, there is snow or they are frozen due to a frost. The club will try and give plenty of notice via social media, the website and coaches if games are going to be cancelled.
- Is a session really two hours long even for U6s?
Normally they are 2 hours long but it is down to the coaches to decide. The younger age groups tend to play and train for a shorter period of time.
11. What if my child is not any good or can’t catch a ball?
No problem, if they enjoy playing the skills will follow. Leighton Buzzard operate an all-inclusive policy for all players.
12. What level of commitment am I expected to give as a parent?
You will be asked to assist with some small jobs such as carpark duty particularly on match days and notice will be given about this approximately 3 times a season. The club is run by volunteers and we always need helpers either in your child’s age group or to help run the club in many other ways. We encourage all members to become involved in the club if possible, to create the best club for your child.
13. How much will it cost?
Currently ( 2018/19) the membership fees are £10 per month for one child this includes one parent also becoming a social playing member of the club. Additional children are £5 pm. If you wish to become more involved in the club there are various memberships that can give additional benefits to you and your family.
