The under 10s assembled, taking the short trip to our friends and neighbours Aylesbury, for their last matches of the regular season.
Facing strong opposition, the challenge for the team was whether they could start with a little more intensity than usual. This certainly was not a problem today. An aggressive (in the right way) approach and excellent teamwork meant that strong opposition in Chinnor, Newport (Salop) and our hosts were outplayed and outfought as the effervescent and committed Buzzard side ran through a fantastic number of tries, rattling opponents possibly not used to such treatment.
Whether the praise got to the boys’ heads or whether it was simply the now traditional post-lunch lull will remain a mystery as the team put in a performance almost as shocking as the price of a coffee to be soundly outplayed by Buckingham in their fourth game.
With pride hurting and players clearly unhappy with their own performances, the coaches were looking for a reaction in our final game against High Wycombe. They certainly got it as a wholehearted and committed performance, coupled with scintillating running and excellent team awareness, thrilled the watching parents as our opponents felt the backlash of a team with a point to prove to themselves.
Overall, a great day’s rugby from a set of players who are beginning to show signs of becoming a coherent team. The boys enjoyed their day at a friendly club and have given themselves an excellent send off before their trip to East Sussex for next week’s festival.
